Every pump here runs off the truck’s power take-off rather than a separate engine, so there is one less motor to fuel, start and service. What decides the one you need is the flow the job asks for, the pipe size on the truck, and the speed the PTO turns the pump at.

What is a PTO water pump?

A PTO water pump is a pump driven by the truck’s power take-off instead of by an engine of its own. The PTO takes drive off the gearbox and turns the pump, so the truck’s engine does the work and there is no second motor on the chassis to fuel, start or maintain.

The ones here are self-priming centrifugal pumps. A plain centrifugal pump has to be full of water before it will pull; a self-priming one clears the air out of the suction line itself and starts drawing, which is what you want when the truck is filling from a canal, a pond or a hydrant and nobody wants to prime it by hand.

Which pump do I need for my water truck?

Work back from the tank. Tell us how many litres it holds and how long you have to fill or empty it, plus the pipe size on the truck, and we will tell you the flow rate the pump has to make.

Does it need its own engine?

No. It is driven from the truck PTO, which takes its drive from the gearbox. There is nothing else to fuel or start.

What do you need from me to quote?

The truck and its gearbox, the PTO you have or plan to fit, the tank size, and what the pump will be doing — filling, spraying, fire suppression or drainage.
